The Castanyada

“Castanyada” is a traditional celebration of Catalonia. It’s celebrated the 1st of November. In this traditional day, the girl and boys wear costumes and all the people eat chestnuts and “panellets”. “Panellets” are a special food, are like a little cookies very sweet, this day also, the families meet and eat all together. The students sell chestnuts to win money, normally for the school trip. Chestnuts are dried fruits and are very typical in France, chestnuts are delicious. Also the negative of ”Castanyada” is that chestnuts are more expensive because all the people buy them.   

LA CASTANYADA

The celebration that we want to talk is traditional here in my country: “Castanyada”. The origin of this celebration is from the mountains of Catalonia because the trees of this fruit, the “castanya”, are there. But we also plant these trees where we want for example: in one street of a city. When it’s time for this celebration we eat “castanyes” and “panellets”. But this and last year, the people has celebrate Halloween and for this reason the “Castanyada” is losing people. This is our writing about the “Castanyada” a very traditional celebration of our country

The Patum de Berga

The Patum de Berga is a popular and traditional festival that is celebrated each year in the Catalan city of Berga during Corpus Christi. It consists of a series of "dances" by townspeople dressed as mystical and symbolical figures, and accompanied either by the rhythm of a drum or band music. The dances are marked by their solemnity and their ample use of fire and pyrotechnics.

It was declared a Traditional Festival of National Interest by the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1983, and as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2005.

This tradition they celebrate 31 of October, the people wearing a horrible costume. Is the night of witches and ghost. The children go to house of the  neighbour to take  sweet and the people don’t give, the boys throw eggs out the house. This tradition invent the English people. In Catalonia a small part of the people celebrate this tradition, celebrate “Castanyada”.

My favorite group is Bongo Botrako. This band is Catalan. This is a very famous group. The group sings ska music. The members of the Bongo Botrako are: the singer is Ruben Sierra, the trumpeter is Alex Magnani, Romain Renard is the accordionist, Adrià Salas is the vocalist, Sergi López the drummer and Ferran Ibañez is the bass guitarist. My favourite song is “Todos los días sale el sol”. The most popular CD is “Todos los días sale el sol” and their most popular songs are “Llegará la primavera” and “Libre”.

One of my favorite group is “We are the scientists”, they play pop music but sometimes, they did rock music. I like very much their pop music. I don’t have any CDs of this group, I only listen to their songs in my computer. They come from California, in the United States. The singer and guitarist is Scott Lamb, the drummer is Keith Murray and the bass guitarist player is Chris Cain. My favorite song of this group is “Rules don’t stop me”. This is my favorite group because their songs and the lyrics are very good, and I like so much the rhythm.

RIHANNA

My favorite singer is Rihanna. She is a young woman that sings pop music and dance music. She is the only person of the group. I like her because she sings so good and her songs are very nice, but there are some songs that are terrible and repetitive, like “Don’t stop the music” and “”Under my umbrella”. I don’t any CDs of Rihanna, but I often listen to her songs in my MP4. She’s from Saint Michael and she was born on February 20^th of 1988.  Her CDs are: “A girl like me”, “SOS”, “Good Girls Gone Bad” and “Umbrella”. She is very beautiful and she usually changes her look.

JUSTIN BIEBER

Justin is a Canadian singer. He is 17 years old. We like Justin because he has a great voice and he dances very well. He has four CD’s: “My World”, “My World Acoustics”, “My World 2.0.” and “My World 2.0. Acoustics” but this November he will release a new disc called “Under the Mistletoe”. Our favourite song is “Never say Never”. He plays pop music and he plays the piano, the guitar, the trumpet and the harmonic. He has collaborated with lots of famous singers like Usher, Sean Kingston, Lil’ Wayne and Jessica Jarrell. Justin is the boy who has most of fans in the world.

Our favorite group is the Oreja de van Gogh. We like this group because the songs are beautiful, and funny. In this group there are five components. “Sopa de Cabra” Is a catalan rock group and was created in 1986.

This group was very important because the Catalan people love this fantastic music.

MY SCHOOL

Every day I get up at 8 o’clock, then I have breakfast, I dress up and I go to school (Maristes Montserrat). I study 2^nd ESO and I’m in group A. My tutor is Josep Lluís Fernandez, and I think this course won’t be very difficult. Our classroom is on the firs floor. Our classroom has a medium size. There are 30 tables and 30 chairs, well the table of the teacher has a computer and is more bigger than ours. In front of the class there is the blackboard and in the ceiling there are 6 lamps and a projector.
And well, this is the description of my classroom. Raul Ariño and Laura Carbelo.

My city (Lleida)

My city is Lleida, the main streets are “ S. Major”, “P. de Ronda”, and the “R.Ferran”. The principal place is “Camps Elisis”. The main areas are : Cappont, Zona Alta and Bordeta. The main schools are: Maristes Montserrat, Sagrada Família and Dominiques. The main hospitals are: Arnau de Vilanova, Aliança and the Santa Maria.
My house is located in Lleida center. The street Doctora Castells. The Traditions of Lleida is “Lo Marraco”, “La festa de les flors”, it’s very funny. And the Mayor of Lleida is “Ángel Ros i Domingo”, of the socialist political party (PSC). The monument important of Lleida is “Indivil i Mandoni”.
This is my city.

writing 1- Second Eso B

In this year we are studying 2n Eso B. Our mentor is Josep Ramón Miro. In this year we have new subject VIP and technical drawing. The course is very great, but it is complicated. Our teachers in English are Isabel Giralt and Iolanda Mateu.
In this class, we are 30 students. The whole group of Second has 90 students.
We have a great time. In class of English we spilt into two parts. On Tuesday one part is on corners, and Thursday and Friday second parts we do it on class.
On 14th of October we have the first exam of English.
On day 28th of October we did the first “convivencies“ that Maristes Montserrat created in honor of Marcel.li Champagnat.

An article of the course

This year, we are in 2nd of ESO, in the “B” class and we’re thirteen students for class. This course, is a little bit difficult because all the classes are faster than last year. Last day, 27th of September, we had two exams and last Friday we had one of maths.
For another part, 28th we had an excursion to Verdú, to “convivence” with our classmates. Also, at the end of the course we will have a big excursion of about 4 days in Banyoles (Girona). So the course isn’t boring.
The problem in the ESO is that we don’t celebrate the typical traditions
(“Castanyada” , “Carnestoltes”…) but we do one activity which in primary we didn’t do. It is called “Festa esportiva” and we celebrate it in honor of “ La Verge Montserrat”.
We think if we study and we put our “interest” we can pass the course with good mark.

History 2nd E.S.O C

The last week, we started a new level, 2nd E.S.O.
The first hours we stayed with our teacher: Josep Lluis Fernández and he explained the things we do in this level.
In the afternoon, all the course started the subjects. In the class: 2nd E.S.O A the first subject was Catalan, the teacher is Laura Espelt she is from Berga.
And then, we have art subject with Teresa Borrás she told us the material we need to do the class because she puts a zero in our notes. We’re happy to start the school because we want to learn a lot and play with friends.

Carnaval

Carnival is a party where people dress to the laughter of the party. Sometimes people wear very well prepared costumes and that is the backbone of the party. Horse rides in carriages are ready to march out and surprise people. The best of the party is when people gather up candy and streamers. The festival lasts three days and at the end of three days, there is the burial of the sardine that it is the named Carnestoltes.

Hello boys.
Our names are Miriam, Albert Samarà, Albert Pon and Aleix, and we are going to explain to you how we celebrate (Caga tio).
Caga tio is a typical catalan party, where the boys hit a trunk at the same times that they sing a songs, when the song finishes the trunk gives presents to all the boys.
We celebrate this on 24 of December, it is not necessary to wear special clothes, the only thing than we need is a stick to beat the trunk and give food it, if you don’t give food to the trunk it doesn’t give to you a present.

LLEIDA'S CARNIVAL

Hello my friends! Our name is Cris, Ruffed and Marian. We are writing you to explain you about how the people from Lleida celebrate carnival. In this celebration, we were costumes and we meet friends. In the street, there are a lot of floats and the music is very loud. Everybody dances… its very beautiful! We celebrate carnival the 28th of February, and it is still very cold. For that reason we go to the café to warm up. This year, we are going to dress up with a costume of “ Los Picapiedras ”. We are very impatient to celebrate this party.

Carnival

Carnival is a festivity in which people dress up. It consists in enjoying this festivity with your friends, family…
There are a lot of types of costumes: ghosts, princess etc…
In some cities, there is a competition: the person that wears the best costume wins a present, it is the king.
All the cities do the procession; there are a lot of enormous and beautiful floats.
The people are on to the floats, give sweets to other people.
In some cities, the carnival is very interesting because there are some people that wear strange costumes.
One example is: the carnival of “Rio de Janeiro” where people wear a turkey costume.
